Model posed against difficult light. 2012 Oils, 18″ x 14″

Started in 2004 from an old polaroid, this portrait of the missus has never been right. Just added a few licks while completing a commission, which proved the magic touch.

My first ever painting

Quote

early painting

This was my first ever painting – done at Havant College in ’79. It was done in oils on board – a massive 10 feet x 4 feet. Havant Borough Council eventually bought it and i saw it hanging in the Civic Offices recently. But now this initiative from the BBC has offered unexpected airing. Thank you!

I hope I’ve improved…

Nut roast recipe

I have written down a nut roast recipe that works quite well. For all you veggies out there – put away the quorn sausages and make this simple recipe!
You’ll need a food processor capable of dry blending and an oven.

Nut roast (serves 2; or 3 skinny people)

Half red onion
2 sticks celery
Garlic – 4 cloves
100g cashews – not roasted or salted
Salt and pepper
Mixed herb (1 teaspoon of a liquid one like Barts is good)
1 or 1 and a half crusts stale brown bead (leave it out all day)
2 eggs
Splash of white wine

Mush veg together
Crumb bread and nuts
In a large frying pan melt a knob of butter. Heat veg to soften – add herbs
Mix all together with eggs, wine and seasoning
Pour into WELL BUTTERED ramekins
40m at 150 fan oven (170-180 non-fan)

Watch out they rise !

For a variant leave a gap at the top of the ramekins and put in some stilton half way thru cooking
